The tour can start either from San José or from the area of Jaco or Los Sueños, from San José it is a 02 hour drive and from Jaco / Los Sueños area it is a 1 hour drive.
Our guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in our very recent model buses, all equipped with air conditioning, for the drive on the Pan-American Highway to Guacalillo. Along the way you will enjoy the nice scenery of the countryside, pass by the picturesque towns including Orotina and San Mateo, before arriving to the site of Guacalillo. This is a transitional zone between the Tropical dry and Tropical Humid Forest, thus, rich in migratory and resident wildlife.
Upon arrival to our facilities, you will be welcomed with a refreshing buffet of tropical fruits and sodas and have some free time to enjoy the gardens, refresh from the trip, before heading on to the tour.
Afterwards, your guide will take you along a 200-meter trail on to of the Mangroves, exploring its rare beauty. In this forest, you will find four species of Mangrove trees (including black, red, with and tea) and will be introduced to the life forms that inhabit this forest. Then, board the comfortable boat for a tranquil, yet exciting, ride along the estuary and the river, home to 250 species of birds such as tanagers, trogons, orioles, ospreys, seabirds and shorebirds such cormorants, pelicans and roseate spoonbills, very common in the river mouth. The river is also famous for hosting the largest colony of crocodiles in the country, and you will have the opportunity of getting close to these millenary reptiles during your boat tour.
Upon return, before heading back to San José, you will have some free time to enjoy the gardens, freshen up and savor the tropical fruits and drinks. Arrival to your hotel is in the early afternoon.
