The trip starts in San José and will take you to the Poás Volcano, traveling by coffee plantations and beautiful scenery. You will visit this volcano set at an altitude of 2,708 meters above sea level and one of the very few active ones in America accessible by road. Discover its crater, an enormous depression of 1,5 kilometers in diameter and 300 meters deep. Afterwards, a stop for breakfast is made at La Paz Waterfall Gardens. These gardens feature over 70 acres of wildlife and forest to explore, and you will have the opportunity to visit the butterfly Observatory, the Hummingbird Gallery and will end up your hike with an incredible view of La Paz Waterfall.
Our journey continues to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí. Upon arrival, board a comfortable boat for a relaxing journey into the heartland of this Rainforest. During the expedition, be on the look for toucans, monkeys, iguanas, caimans and so many other species that live in the Rainforest. You will then savor a typical Costa Rican lunch, in a magnificent thatched-roofed "rancho" right on the riverbank, built as our ancestors used to. Offering serenity and mostly openness, here you will have some free time to relax and enjoy the river views before returning to San José.
During the return ride to the city, you will be amazed by the breathtaking views offered by the Braulio Carrillo National Park, as we pass it by. This Park, is almost covered with tall, dense and evergreen forest; it has been estimated that more than 6,000 different plant species inhabit this park, including tree ferns, palm trees, heliconias and bromeliads, among many others.
